RACE

The Tall Ships Races 2012, presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International, commenced in St Malo, France on the 5th to the 8th of July.

From St Malo, the fleet  raced across the Bay of Biscay to Lisbon in Portugal, before carrying on to Cádiz in Spain.

The Tall Ships  departed Cádiz to cruise in company along the length of the Portuguese coast before reaching the safe harbour of A Coruna in Northern Spain.

The fleet  departed A  Coruna on the 13th of August to head north for the Irish Sea and Dublin.

Today the ships arrived in Dublin City, and I went along to see them, and what a sight it was. They really are incredible , so majestic looking, and so big. There was a great atmosphere with all sorts of other things going on along the Quays, open air concerts, carnivals, food stalls, craft stalls, fun activities for children, water sports, and much much more, and of course a great deal of very handsome sailors were wandering about the city! The event will end on Sunday when all the ships leave the River Liffey together in a convoy.

This ship is called the Amerigo Vespucci, and it really is quite something, unfortunately my pictures do not show its enormous size.
